Welcome to the FourCast presented by Foursight Solutions. Jesse Freeman, Advanced Technology Specialist, demonstrates the WingtraRAY vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) drone. He also shows how it’s used for professional surveying and mapping. He begins by unboxing the drone and walking through the setup process. Jesse shows how flight planning is handled through the drone’s software. Users can define a geofence, altitude, and mapping area to ensure accurate data collection. The drone’s autonomous system manages most of the flight process, allowing it to take off, fly its route, and land safely even in windy conditions. It also provides real-time flight data such as battery life, wind speed, altitude, and flight path.
The demonstration also highlights the drone’s advanced capabilities and modular design. The WingtraRAY features interchangeable payloads, including the MAP61 payload with a Sony mapping camera capable of delivering survey-grade accuracy within a tenth of a foot. It also has options for multispectral, LiDAR, and high-resolution inspection cameras. Jesse explains how the drone can cover large areas quickly—up to 1,300 acres in a single hour—while maintaining high precision. Safety features, such as a built-in parachute for flights over people and infrastructure, help it meet requirements for federal projects. The drone is also blue-listed for federal drone work. The video concludes with an overview of typical surveying workflows and data processing after a flight.
