Justin Crowder Receives "Innovation" Challenge Coin

Innovating the Employee Experience: Justin Crowder Honored with 4Rivers Challenge Coin
At 4Rivers Equipment, "Innovation" isn't just about the latest SmartGrade™ technology on a bulldozer; it’s about finding creative, outside-the-box solutions to improve the way we work and connect. On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, we celebrated this spirit by awarding Product Support Manager Justin Crowder from our Hobbs, New Mexico branch with a 4Rivers Equipment Challenge Coin.
CEO John Shearer and General Manager Danny Bratton traveled to Hobbs to surprise Justin during a branch luncheon, marking another highlight in our Centennial Year celebrations.
Turning Downtime into Connection
The nomination for this award came directly from John Shearer, who was impressed by Justin’s initiative during our Base Camp training events in Greeley, Colorado.
For our team members traveling from Hobbs, the journey to Greeley is one of the longest treks in the 4Rivers network. This often results in significant downtime between travel segments and the start of training. Justin recognized an opportunity to transform this "wait time" into something productive and engaging.
The "Base Camp BINGO" Innovation: Justin developed a custom BINGO game designed to encourage traveling employees to:
- Explore the Corporate Campus: Guiding them through areas of the Greeley office they might otherwise overlook.
- Build Relationships: Creating "missions" within the game that required meeting and interacting with corporate staff members they typically only know through email.
- Boost Morale: Turning a long travel day into a fun, competitive, and educational experience.
The game was a massive hit, proving that Justin’s "idea put in place" made the corporate culture more accessible and enjoyable for everyone involved.
The Core Value of Innovation
Justin’s award falls under the Innovation category of our four Core Values. While we often think of innovation as technical—like using JDLink™ for remote diagnostics—Justin’s BINGO game is a perfect example of cultural innovation.
The 4Rivers Core Values Pillars:
- Innovation: Finding better ways to solve problems and enhance the employee and customer experience.
- Integrity: Doing what is right for the customer, every time.
- Commitment: Following through on our promises (like Brian Dent’s 45-year legacy).
- Respect: Treating every teammate and partner as a "Working Partner."
Why Culture Matters in Product Support
As a Product Support Manager, Justin’s primary role is ensuring our customers have the parts and service they need to maintain uptime. By innovating the way his team interacts with the corporate office, he strengthens the internal network that supports our customers.
- Better Communication: When a tech in Hobbs knows the face behind the parts desk in Greeley, problems get solved faster.
- Employee Retention: Fun, innovative environments attract top talent, ensuring we have the best technicians to service your John Deere P-Tier equipment.
- Consistent Service: A connected team is a more efficient team, which translates directly to the high-level support 4Rivers has provided for 100 years.
Common Questions About 4Rivers Culture (FAQ)
What is "Base Camp" training?
Base Camp is our internal training program where employees from across our Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas locations gather to learn about new John Deere technology, safety protocols, and the "Working Partner" philosophy.
How does internal innovation help the customer?
When leaders like Justin improve employee engagement, it leads to higher job satisfaction and lower turnover. For the customer, this means more experienced technicians and parts experts who stay with 4Rivers long-term to manage your fleet.
Can I nominate a 4Rivers employee for a Challenge Coin?
The Challenge Coin program is an internal recognition system, but we value all customer feedback. If an employee has provided an innovative solution for your jobsite, please let your local branch manager know!
