Industry Career Day at FutureForward

Bridging the Gap: Colorado Pathways Industry Career Day
On Wednesday, October 29, 2025, 4Rivers Equipment joined The AED Foundation for the Colorado Pathways Industry Career Day. Held at FutureForward at Bollman and Washington Square, the event was a high-energy opportunity to connect the next generation of technicians, operators, and engineers with the professionals who build our world every day.
Hands-On Learning: Beyond the Textbook
At 4Rivers, we believe that the best way to spark an interest in the trades is to put the technology directly into students' hands. Our display at Industry Career Day was designed to show that a career in heavy equipment is as much about high-tech diagnostics as it is about heavy iron.
The 4Rivers Experience Stations:
- A/C Simulator Training: Students utilized the same diagnostic simulator our professional technicians use to master climate control systems. This hands-on tool demonstrates the complex electrical and pressurized systems found in modern John Deere cabs.
- Mini Excavator Static Display: We brought a John Deere mini excavator to the site, allowing students to inspect the engineering up close—from the hydraulic cylinders to the JDLink™ telematics hardware.
- Professional Mentorship: Our team, including Training Coordinator Michele Ibanez, hosted mock interviews, providing students with real-world feedback on how to transition from high school or trade school into a professional career at a 9-time Onyx Circle dealership.
Why Industry Career Days Matter
The heavy equipment industry is facing a critical shortage of skilled workers. Events like the Colorado Pathways Career Day are essential for showing students that the path to a high-paying, stable career doesn't always require a traditional four-year degree.
Benefits of the 4Rivers Partnership:
- Direct Access to Professionals: Students get to ask "What is a Tuesday like?" and hear from people who are actually in the field.
- Early Exposure to Technology: Many students are surprised to learn that modern excavators use GPS grade control, Live Dig Radar®, and remote diagnostics.
- Clear Career Paths: We show students how a Diesel Tech Sponsorship can pay for their schooling at institutions like the Community College of Aurora (CCA) and lead directly to a job at a 4Rivers branch.
4Rivers: A "Working Partner" for Local Schools
As we look toward our 100th Anniversary in 2026, 4Rivers is doubling down on its commitment to Colorado's youth. From our $50,000 donation to the new CAST facility at CCA to our presence at FutureForward, we are investing in the people who will maintain the infrastructure of the next century.
Common Questions About Careers at 4Rivers (FAQ)
What is the first step for a student interested in 4Rivers?
The best first step is to visit our [Careers Page] or attend a local career day. We offer job-shadowing opportunities and facility tours at our branches in Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, and Commerce City for students interested in the trade.
Do I need to already know how to fix tractors?
Not at all! We look for individuals with a strong work ethic, a mechanical mindset, and a willingness to learn. Through our CDI (Certified Dealer Instructor) program, we can teach you the specifics of John Deere and Wirtgen Group machinery.
What are "Mock Interviews"?
Mock interviews are practice sessions where our staff asks you the types of questions you'll face during a real job application. It’s a low-pressure way to build confidence and learn how to highlight your skills to potential employers.
