Big Dig Raises Over $131,000

Digging Deep for a Cure: Big Dig of Northern Colorado 2025
On Saturday, September 6, 2025, the Big Dig of Northern Colorado transformed the Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers facility in Longmont into a playground of purpose. For the second consecutive year, the event was a total sell-out, drawing over 3,000 attendees and raising a record-breaking $131,029.47 for pediatric cancer research through the American Cancer Society (ACS).
A Hands-On Experience with a Heart
The Big Dig is a unique, high-energy festival where children—including those currently battling cancer and survivors—get to climb into the operator’s seat of real construction machinery. 4Rivers Equipment, a key sponsor and long-standing "Working Partner" for the community, played a vital role in making this year’s event unforgettable.
4Rivers Contributions Included:
- Mini-Excavator Training: Children were given the opportunity to operate real mini-excavators under the guidance of professionals, sparking interest in the trades while supporting a vital cause.
- The 70-Foot Obstacle Course: A massive physical challenge that kept families engaged throughout the day.
- Community Spirit: 4Rivers staff were on hand to ensure every child felt the thrill of "playing with the big yellow toys" in a safe, supportive environment.
“We have kids here today who are facing a cancer battle, and we have kids here that have faced that battle and won, so it just brings home the impact that ACS has on people right here in our community.” — Rachel Befort, Associate Director of the American Cancer Society

Looking Ahead: The Centennial Excavator Drive (2026)
As 4Rivers Equipment enters its 100th year in 2026, our commitment to the American Cancer Society is growing even stronger. In honor of our centennial, we have unveiled a specially painted John Deere 200G Excavator.
How the Centennial Drive Works:
- Donate to ACS: Partners who donate $3,500 or more to the American Cancer Society will have their company logo featured on this unique centennial machine.
- Visibility: The machine will travel across Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas, appearing at job sites and community events.
- The Goal: 4Rivers aims to raise over $100,000 in 2026 through this initiative alone, culminating in another massive appearance at the next Big Dig.
Common Questions About the Big Dig (FAQ)
What is the age limit for kids to operate equipment?

Where do the funds actually go?
The proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society's pediatric cancer research initiatives. This includes funding for Nobel Prize-winning scientists and local support services for families navigating a childhood cancer diagnosis.
