Digging Deep for a Cure: Big Dig 2024 Raises Over $125,000

The 2024 Big Dig of Northern Colorado reached a historic milestone this year, raising more than $125,000 for the American Cancer Society’s fight against pediatric cancer. For the first time in the event’s history, tickets completely sold out, proving that the Northern Colorado community is more committed than ever to supporting families and children facing childhood cancer.

Hands-On Fun with a Purpose

As a long-standing partner of the Big Dig, 4Rivers Equipment was proud to provide the "heavy lifting" for this year’s entertainment. The event is designed to give children a chance to be "operators for a day," turning a construction site into a giant playground for a great cause.

4Rivers highlights from the 2024 event included:

  • The Mini-Excavator Zone: We brought out 12 John Deere mini-excavators, allowing kids to experience the thrill of operating real machinery under the guidance of our expert volunteers.
  • The 70-Foot Obstacle Course: To keep the energy high, we featured a massive obstacle course that became a central hub for family fun throughout the day.
  • Community Engagement: Our team was on hand to share the world of construction and forestry with the next generation of builders.

Why the Big Dig Matters

Pediatric cancer research remains a vital need, and the funds raised at the Big Dig stay at work through the American Cancer Society. These donations help fund life-saving research, provide support for families undergoing treatment, and advocate for better access to care.

The "word of mouth" success of this year’s event shows just how much this cause resonates with local families. At 4Rivers, our mission of being a "Working Partner" extends far beyond the job site—it’s about building a healthier, stronger community for our children.

A Heartfelt Thank You

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the volunteers, sponsors, and, most importantly, the families who attended and donated. Your support made this the most successful Big Dig to date.

As we look toward Big Dig 2026, we are inspired by the resilience of the children we support and the generosity of our Northern Colorado neighbors. Together, we are digging toward a future without childhood cancer.

Common Questions About the Big Dig (FAQ)

What is the Big Dig?

The Big Dig is a family-friendly fundraiser where children can operate heavy machinery (excavators, loaders, etc.) in a safe, controlled environment. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

How are the mini-excavators operated safely?

Every machine is supervised by a trained professional. The John Deere mini-excavators used are perfect for this event because of their precise controls and safety features, ensuring every "junior operator" has a great time safely.

How can I get involved for next year?

You can support the Big Dig by purchasing tickets early (as they do sell out!), volunteering your time, or becoming a corporate sponsor. Keep an eye on our local 4Rivers social media pages for 2026 announcements.

Where does the money go?

The $125,000 raised goes directly to the American Cancer Society to support pediatric cancer research and patient support programs.
